In the last decade and especially the last couple of years there has been so much chatter surrounding CBD, weed, cannabis, hemp, etc. It can be challenging to figure out what all of those things are and understand their benefits. There are also a lot of misconceptions and negative stigma surrounding the use of CBD and especially the use of CBD on pets and other animals.

The very first thing that needs to be set straight is that CBD CAN NOT GET YOU HIGH. You will NEVER feel any sort of high from using any product that is strictly CBD or hemp seed oil. They are both non-psychoactive, non-drowsy and while they have many benefits, getting high is not one of them. The compound found in weed that makes you feel high is  delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol or THC.

The next thing to know is that CBD has many health benefits for pets (and people). Some of the benefits that we know from research and first hand experience are:

  • Stress and anxiety relief

  • Balance behavior support

  • Mobility/joint support

  • Anti-inflammatory support

  • Anti-itching support

  • Appetite stimulant

The effects and results will vary from pet to pet, but those are the most common effects experienced by pet CBD users. Generally the biggest use of pet CBD is for stress and anxiety relief. It’s no secret that our pets often get stressed and as owners/parents it is sometimes hard to watch your pet suffer. No one wants their beloved pet to tremble and shake in fear of something. Now there is finally a solution that has helped so many pets across the world find some peace and relief. If you’re wondering in what circumstances it would make sense to use pet CBD we’ve compiled a short, and certainly not complete list of possible scenarios:

  • Visits to the vet

  • Long car rides

  • Airport security/airplanes

  • Hiking or other outdoor activities

  • Bath time

  • Bed time

  • Meeting new people/animals

  • Home alone

The list above only names a few but it’s probably safe to assume that you do at least a few of those things with your pet, so CBD might be something you want to consider. When you are looking for pet CBD products there are a couple of things you want to be mindful of. You want to make sure you are looking for a product that is all natural, is made with organic ingredients and is non-psychoactive. You also want to make sure they are lab tested, that way what the company says is in the product is actually in the product. Additionally, you also might want to ask for the lab analysis, especially if you’re on the more skeptical side.

There are also many ways to administer CBD to your pets. You can buy it in liquid/oil form and have the product dispensed from a dropper, oil’s can be found in varying strengths such as 250mg and 500mg. Another popular way to get CBD is through little bites/chews that are in fun tasty flavors! Here is a link to an example of bacon and beef flavored bites. There are also shampoo and peanut butter options emerging on the market as well.
