5 Common Dog Health Issues You Should Know

  1. Arthritis

Just like humans can suffer from arthritis so can dogs, especially as they age. Boiled down, arthritis is the inflammation of joints in the body. There are also multiple kinds that dogs can get but the most common is osteoarthritis.

We know how difficult it can be to watch your pup start to age and to see the effects that old age has on their bodys. No one wants to see their dog in pain, which is why we love pet CBD products. Pet CBD is non-psychoactive and non-drowsy and we like to use brands like Zen Frenz that use good quality, natural ingredients.

  1. Broken Bones

This is another common health problem that dogs face which we often might not think about, but just like people dogs bones can break. They can break in many ways, Pet Insurance Review lists a few specific ways such as, “Generally, a broken bone occurs when there is some type of impact or sudden force to the dog’s legs or body. For example, your dog may have a fall or be struck by something large, like a vehicle. Smaller breeds may even break a leg by jumping up and down in the home.”

Broken bones are extremely painful so we would recommend an extremely concentrated pet CBD product such as Zen Frenz 500mg Drops!

  1. Cancer

Sadly cancer is extremely common among dogs and actually is the primary cause of death for dogs 10 years and older. Additionally, it affects about 50% of elderly dogs. Today there still is not enough research on what causes cancer in pets but there are a few warning signs to look out for. Some warning signs include

Bumps and lumps on skin

Loss of appetite

Sudden weight loss

Abdominal Swelling

Pain

Difficulty breathing

For treatment, Pet Insurance Review says, “Dogs with cancer should see a veterinary oncologist who can provide specific treatment for your pup, particularly in diagnosing cancer through ultrasound, biopsy, and urinalysis amongst other procedures. “

  1. Fleas

This one probably is a no brainer for most, but fleas are a huge issue for both dogs and cats. Fleas transfer easily between pets so make sure you are being careful at the dog park and on puppy playdates. Some warning signs are skin rashes, hair loss, and excessive scratching of skin.

Treatment is fairly straightforward, the two primary options are a topical solution that is applied directly to the skin or pills taken orally that can be purchased at your vet.

Tip: Hemp seed oil can help with itchy skin, as well as fur and coat protection! One product we recommend is the Zen Frenz Hemp Seed Oil for dogs and cats!

  1. Obesity

When thinking of pet health concerns you might not immediately think of obesity but it is not one to discredit or turn a blind eye to. In fact roughly one third to 40% of dogs are overweight or obese. It is important for dogs to get regular exercise, nutritious food and to limit the number of treats they eat. Obesity is a problem because of the health issues it can lead to including,  heart disease, respiratory illness and heart disease.

Treatment is fairly straightforward, reduce the amount of food your dog eats (consult your vet), keep them on an eating schedule and make sure to get adequate exercise.

This is by no means a comprehensive list and there are many other health concerns that you should keep your eye out for. But hopefully this list gives you some ideas of what to look out for and a few treatment options!
