Dog Friendly Christmas Treats

We are counting down the final days till Christmas! One of our favorite parts of the holiday season is getting to make and eat lots of delicious treats, specifically holiday cookies. While your usual Christmas cookie recipes are probably not dog friendly, here are three easy recipes that are! All of the recipes feature pet friendly CBD to keep your pets full and relaxed this holiday season. But that being said if you do not have any pet CBD on hand or choose not to use it for your pets, all of the recipes can be modified and made without pet CBD. 

Simple Christmas Cookies*

Who says that pets should not be able to enjoy Christmas cookies? Here are at Zen Frenz we love the holidays and all of the delicious baked goods that come with it. Use this recipe so that your dogs can enjoy some festive Christmas Cookies this year. 

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup plain non-fat Greek yogurt
  • 1 Tbsp. baking powder
  • 1/2- cup all-natural peanut butter
  • ½- cup Zen Frenz Peanut Butter
  • Water

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 375° F. Line a baking tray with parchment paper. Mix ingredients together well, adding water if needed to create a rollable dough. Roll out the dough and cut the cookies out. Bake for 15 min. or until browned.

Elfin’ Peanut Butter Pumpkin Dog Treats*

Did you know that dogs love peanut butter? Probably. But did you know that dogs also love pumpkin? Here is a delicious recipe to combine a few of your pups favorite foods!

Ingredients:

  • 2 ½ cup whole wheat flour
  • 2 Tbsp. Zen Frenz Peanut Butter
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup canned natural pumpkin
  • ½ Tsp. cinnamon
  • ½ tsp. salt

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 350° F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Mix together the flour, salt, peanut butter, eggs, cinnamon, and pumpkin. Add water if needed. Roll out the dough and cut the cookies out. Bake for 30 min. until hard.

Gingerbread Dogs*

Don’t worry, there are no “dogs” in these, but you will want to use a dog shaped cookie cutter to make them truly fun Christmas party treats. This is one of our personal favorite Christmas dog treat recipes.

Ingredients:

  • 4 Tbsp. raw honey
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 6 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2 Tbsp. fresh shaved ginger
  • 250mg Zen Drops 

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 350° F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper Mix together the honey, molasses, oil, and water in one bowl. Mix together the flour, baking soda, cloves, cinnamon, and ginger in a separate bowl.

Combine the dry ingredients with the wet and mix to form a dough. Separate the dough into quarters then wrap and refrigerate each ball of dough for 5 hrs. Roll out the dough and cut into small pieces. Bake for 25 minutes until browned.
