I’m sure you’ve been there after a long day, watching your dog and envying him for being so chill. You wish, right! To be fair there’s not a lot of taking care of things that your pup has to do; you do it all for them, so no wonder they seem so carefree. But, we can definitely learn a thing or two from dogs, especially the longest living ones. So, just for fun, let’s go through some of the longest living dog breeds!
Oldest Dog Ever
An Australian Cattle Dog named Bluey holds the record for longest living dog breed. He lived to be over 29 years in Victoria, Australia. And, since 1 dog year is equal to 7 human years, he lived 203 human years which is quite incredible. He lived close to 15 years over the expected life expectancy for Australian Cattle Dog (13 to 15 years). Australian Cattle Dogs are obedient, protective, and loyal.
Most Dogs
Let’s talk about most dogs. Most dogs live between 10 to 13 years. Some dogs live longer at 15 years while others live much shorter. Some dogs are more likely to develop health conditions that could lead to a shortened lifespan.
Dachshund
Also known as a weiner dog, the dachshund was originally bred to be a hunting dog. Their average lifespan is between 12 to 16 years with the extraordinarily Chanel living to be 21 years old. These dogs will be playful and loyal although a little stubborn during their lifespan.
Chihuahua
Chihuahuas are little but fierce. While they may not weigh over 6 to 7 pounds, they live between 12 to 20 years. It’s important to note that smaller ones tend to run into more health problems and any sickness that results in weight loss can be life threatening. Nevertheless, these spunky, loyal, personality-filled dogs will stick around for a while.
Toy Poodle
The smaller counterpart to poodles, toy poodles, actually boast a longer lifespan at 15 to 20 years. They are also hypoallergenic if you are looking for a hypoallergenic best friend. These smart, active, and alert dogs are quite easy to train and will keep you impressed.
Beagle
These dogs will not only live to be 15 to 20 years old, they will also be a great addition to a family. There are two things to note. They like to howle so they may not be the most apartment friendly dogs and they are prone to obesity so you will want to ensure tehyr are exercised and not overfed. These happy, friendly, and curious dogs will be fun to have around and bond with for years to come!
Jack Russel Terrier
These dogs will live between 10 to 15 years. And while they are athletic, energetic and clever, their stubbornness can make them difficult to train so you should be up for the challenge. They are usually around 13 to 17 pounds so they do not need too much space, but do like to get their energy out, so lots of walks will be a part of your life with a Jack Russell Terrier around.
