As you read in yesterday’s blog post, there are many benefits for both your dog and yourself in regard to meditation. Today we are going to discuss how to actually begin meditating with your dog. What are the steps? What should you know? What should you do?
Meditating with Your Dog: Focus on Breathing
Breathing is an involuntary body response. We don’t have to think about breathing, our body does it for us.
When you’re meditating, breathing becomes a main focus. You want to focus on every inhale and exhale while trying to align your breaths with your dog’s breathing. Try to be in sync.
Don’t be discouraged if this doesn’t happen exactly as it looks on paper the first few times. Meditation requires practice and commitment.
A good idea for the first time you meditate with your dog could be when she is lying on the couch sitting next to you watching a movie. Begin to attempt to sync your breathing. Do you notice her breaths getting slower?
Meditating with Your Dog: Comfort is Critical
The most important factor to begin meditation with your dog involves comfort. Many who look into canine meditation are searching because their dog is experiencing some type of anxiety. If this is the case, you may be interested in taking the edge off with a few drops of CBD oil. The CBD oil might help your dog relax enough to begin practicing with you.
Meditating with Your Dog: Patience is Key
Just as with everything else with your dog, patience is key. It’s easy to lose your patience when you are upset and just want everything to go exactly as planned. But, meditation won’t be perfect immediately.
Practice, be patient, and stay committed. You’ll feel the stress washing off your body as you become more experienced.
