Above all else, Zen Frenz is committed to serving the pet community by ensuring the safety of all our products. However, we understand that the use of CBD for pets is relatively new in this industry. Many of our products seem daunting to pet-owners because the science behind CBD and hemp plants are unfamiliar to most, and often misunderstood as ‘drugs’ like marijuana.
We’re here to debunk the negative connotations of Hemp and explain the science behind our consumable CBD products for pets.
Firstly, CBD does not produce psychoactive effects. For both animals and humans, it has been scientifically proven that CBD does not produce the same ‘high’ effect as cannabinoids with THC. This is because CBD is derived from hemp plants which contain almost no THC.
So, why use CBD?
This is a great question that arises for many pet-owners who are on the fence about trying CBD for their pets. The use of Hemp-derived compounds in our products provides unique benefits that other natural ingredients do not have. CBD works with a preexisting endocannabinoid system in the body. In simple terms, CBD compounds and the body’s natural endocannabinoids have a very similar structure which allows CBD to perform similar regulatory functions when the system is disrupted. This system is a network of receptors that synthesize endocannabinoid substances to maintain the body’s homeostasis. When CBD is ingested, these compounds interact with the body’s receptors. In particular, it interacts with CB1 receptors in the brain, glands, nervous system, and organs, and CB2 receptors in the immune system. The effects of CBD are wide-ranging and can differ by how it’s ingested in the body. The primary benefits of CBD are to control inflammation, regulate mood, regulate appetite and digestion, and boost natural endocannabinoid levels.
There are three different types of CBD that can be used for creating products for our pets. Full-spectrum CBD products are the least refined and contain the greatest amount of cannabinoids. On the other hand, CBD isolate products are the purest form, containing no plant matter or grassy taste. Here at Zen Frenz, we only use broad-spectrum CBD. Unlike full-spectrum and isolate products, broad-spectrum CBD products retain enough plant material to produce targeted effects without having an off-putting flavor for our pets.
Broad-spectrum CBD products contain key compounds that make our products effective. In addition to CBD, there are three key compounds found in our products derived from hemp plants: CBG, CBN, and CBC. Cannabigerol (CBG) has antioxidant properties and can benefit your pet by increasing dopamine, regulating mood and body functions, and helping with skin issues. Cannabinol (CBN) can benefit your pet by helping with pain relief and functioning as a sleep-aid. Cannabichromene (CBC) has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antifungal properties that are linked with pain-perception receptors. CBC is also believed to activate receptors that increase the body’s natural endocannabinoid levels.
There’s a lot of science behind the use of CBD and it can get extremely overwhelming to understand how these ingredients work in our pets.
