While working a lot and feeling stressed out isn’t always a bad thing, too much stress can really start to take a toll on your body. In addition to the mental effects of stress, there are also many physical ones. Physical symptoms such as headaches, tension in the neck and shoulders, dizziness, fatigue and poor sleep can all be a result of stress overload. Additionally, stress can affect your mental/emotional state too because it elevates levels of cortisol, a hormone that affects your brain. This can result in stress, poor concentration, difficulty in making decisions and uncontrollable thoughts. People who are in a high state of stress can be aggressive or show defensive behaviour, they may also drink too much or smoke often. All of these reasons and many more just further reemphasize just how important it is to make relaxation and getting zen a part of your standard routine. Here are five specific reasons why we find getting zen so important.
-
To think more clearly
Continuous stress is shown to do some pretty unpleasant things to our minds. Science has linked many diseases to frayed nerves. Paranoia, depression, several syndromes and even just an overarching feeling of not being able to think straight or focus can be byproducts of too much stress in your life. By adding some personal time for you and allowing yourself to get zen, you can put your troubles temporarily on hold and allow your mind to recover. If your mind is at peace, you can better evaluate your daily tasks, projects and problems more quickly than if you’re held down by unnecessary and often unrelated worries.
-
More efficiency at work
Depending on where you work, it can be very difficult to stay relaxed during your workday. Between deadlines, constant meetings, irritating co-workers and difficult customers, it feels almost impossible to stay calm. As a result, this can lead to you becoming one of those annoying co-workers that you used to complain about, which makes work an even worse place to be. Although it is easier said than done, it is best to try to stay zen. That way, you can have a better sense of reasoning and problem solving. Additionally, you can bank on enjoying more energy and better concentration when you have the feel good mentality. Your relaxed manor can even encourage your fellow co-workers to follow your example and create a more pleasant work environment.

Boost those around you
This is a favorite reason to get zen from Planet Beach and they say, “Stress has a tendency to spread. The domino effect of stress starts with one person showing signs of stress, leading to an entire group of people’s minds to thinking about all the things causing them concern. Emotions and attitudes, good or bad, are contagious and have energy to them. The best way to combat stress in a group is to try your best to relax. It’s amazing how far a smile and a few encouraging words can relax someone that is feeling stressed.”
