This month, many of us will have trees, ornaments, presents, and other festive decorations placed around our homes. While these decorations may help to keep the season bright, they can also cause unwanted hazards for your furry frenz.
String Lights
String lights add the perfect ambiance to a warm, cozy winter’s evening, but can also become an enticing playtime object for frenz who are easily distracted. Twinkling and colored lights that are easy to reach, such as on low furniture, walls, or on a Christmas tree, are susceptible to being chewed and tugged at. Make sure lights are tightly secured to surfaces and out of reach.
Stockings
Larger frenz may also be able to reach stockings hanging from a banister or fireplace. If the fireplace is on, this can cause an extra hazard for frenz trying to reach those festive stockings. Make sure stockings are out of reach from larger pets, and that your fireplace is either kept off or has a protective covering when it is on.
Low-Hanging Ornaments
For those who celebrate Christmas and put up a beautiful tree complete with tinsel and ornaments, it’s easy to forget about those decorations that hang at the very bottom of the tree. These objects can make the perfect toys for frenz, as they dangle and sparkle. If your frenz are easily drawn to ornaments, ensure that you keep them away from the bottom, reachable part of your tree, and opt to keep them in the top sections of your tree.
Presents
We all know that presents go under the tree; however, that might be your frenz’s favorite nap spot. As presents pile up, your frenz may want to rip them open before Christmas Day. The colorful wrapping, ribbons, and bows can look like delicious, destructible activities for pets. If you know your frenz are particularly interested in opening presents, consider placing them in a different location, such as the dining room table, or on a tall table.
Fireworks
