Happy November Frenz! This time of the year marks many festive holidays, and with that can come many unforeseen challenges for your furry frenz.
Knocking and Doorbells
As family members start to arrive at your door, your frenz might become more sensitive to loud doorbells and knocking noises, especially at your own front door. Usually, this is a signal to them that there is an unknown presence at your door, and they may enter a protective and defensive state, with heightened fear and uncertainty. To help with this, we recommend feeding them one of our CBD Calming Chews the morning beforehand, and about 20-25 minutes before the night begins, so the noises at the door won’t seem so spooky.
Holiday neighborhood events may be another potential sonic stressor that has become more popular with each holiday. Be aware that this could be another addition to their feelings of unease. If you do begin to hear fireworks and other loud noises in the area, we recommend our CBD Drops to help support calming and serenity in shorter periods of time, about 10-15 minutes beforehand.
Unfamiliar Sights and Smells
If your furry frenz like to look out the front door window, or answer the door with you on Thanksgiving night, they might see some unfamiliar faces and smell some new meals that can heighten their senses. Loud chatter and television volume can also contribute to stressful feelings for your frenz. Make sure to keep the volume low or turn on their favorite show, as familiarity can help them feel calm. If your dog is especially prone to nervousness around new people, we recommend keeping them in a quiet room with low noise levels and limited access to your front door. Make sure it is free from any decorations that are motion-activated and that make sound.
Take Them on a Calming Walk
If your frenz enjoy the cold weather, taking them on a walk during high-activity indoor events can help provide some relaxation and escape from new situations. Give your frenz time to cool down and reset after a long day of festivities.
