New Year’s Eve with Pets

activities cbd for pets celebration events with pets new years eve

New Years is a great time to celebrate with family and friends. We get to watch a beautiful fireworks show and in some places light our own! Unfortunately this day isn’t as fun for our pets who can hear much better than us and get easily startled by these loud noises. New Year's Eve is the day when most pets go missing because they run away in fear. Lots of pets get very anxious; one way to ease their anxiety is by using Zen Frenz Zen Drops which are great for anxiety relief. Keep reading to hear about our other tips for this upcoming New Years.

  1. Keep Your Dog Busy and Tired

Dogs are always curious, but even more so in a new environment, or in a familiar one with new stimuli. In order to curb some of this, try to tire them out before the festivities and keep them busy during the evening. Take your usual daily walk, but go a little further up the path or try running up a hill. Anything more than usual should tire them out and hopefully help them stay calmer and sleep well on New Year Eve. However, make sure to stay vigilant during your walk, people tend to test out their fireworks before it gets dark. Those loud noises might startle them enough to run away. Make sure you take them out on a leash with their ID tag, especially on New Years Eve. During the long night of fireworks, maybe buy your dog a new toy which could keep them entertained and excited enough to ignore the loud fireworks.

  1. Host a Pet Friendly Party

We all love to celebrate New Years Eve with a bang, literally and figuratively. While the fireworks are bound to startle your pet, your party could make them anxious as well. Try to keep your party on the smaller side and refrain from any music or sounds that are too loud. You’ll want to keep your dog inside because of the fireworks so try to dedicate an isolated space for your dog. Fill it with food, toys, bedding, anything to keep it familiar as a safe space for your pet. Dogs can hear four times better than humans so those fireworks will really startle them. Try to create that safespace away from the party as much as possible. Anything you can do to maintain their routine and keep the day as normal as possible will reduce undue stress in your pet.

  1. Keep Them Safe

New Years Eve parties are bound to introduce lots of substances that are unknown to your pet and they are probably toxic too. Make sure to keep anything unsafe out of reach. Some common ones are:

  • Alcohol
  • Fireworks
  • Chocolate
  • Chemicals
  • Toxic houseplants
  • Salty snacks
  • Meat with bones

Something important to remember is to keep your dog far away any firework activities if you decide to light some on your own. Your dog could be poisoned by eating them or get hurt by getting hit by one or running towards it. Try to keep them away from human foods. If you are hosting a party, let them know not to feed them ahead of time. If you take them to someone else’s house try to keep your eye on them because you won’t know what dangers might be there.
